* Prior to 1956 the head of the districts were deputy commissioner who was responsible to commissioner. After 1956, the post was known as Collector and District Magistrate. As a Collector, he is responsible for General and Revenue Administration, whereas the responsibility of law and order in the district lies upon him as District Magistrate. |
